Who can become an educator or nanny?
It takes a special person to become a PORSE Educator or Nanny
PORSE welcomes anyone over the age of 17 years who is keen to work with children in a family home as a nanny, or wants to welcome children into their own home as a home educator.
You don’t need qualifications, but you do need a passion for nurturing and caring for children. Our educators display patience and kindness and love to have fun, quality interactions with children. They build strong relationships with parents, caregivers and their PORSE support network through communication and respect.
A number of people become PORSE Educators or Nannies including:
- Stay-at-home parents
- School leavers who want to gain hands-on experience and NZQA credits
- Early childhood teachers
- Foster families
What do I need to get started?
As an educator, nanny, au pair, you must have a current first aid certificate prior to starting with PORSE, which we can support you to obtain, as well as a clean Police check.
For educators, we're also required to obtain full Police vet checks for all potential nannies and educators, and if care is to take place in the educator's home, this will also need to be done for anyone living in the home aged 17 and over.
Educators will also need a safe home to work from (we can work through what these requirements are with you, in relation to in-home childcare).
